JUNE 2023 SPEAKER – FAN PING

JUNE 13TH 2023, 6.45PM: IN-PERSON MEETING ONLY

WITH FAN PING - FINDING LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Learn from award-winning photographer and videographer, Fan Ping, as he draws on his experiences diving in caves and overhead environments to outline the differences between open water photography and cave photography. His talk will focus on dive gear, diving skills, planning, and the dramatic lighting techniques for which he has become known.
Fan Ping is a Chinese photographer and filmmaker based in Atlanta, USA. He specializes in combining artistic elements with nature, and in using complex lighting skills in overhead environments. This artistic style has brought him international acclaim, and he has won awards in many major underwater photo/video competitions.

In recent years, Ping has been focused on underwater cave photography and joined KUR (Karst Underwater Research) as a photographer/videographer to document the beautiful springs of Florida. He believes, “In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.” He hopes people will fall in love with the underwater world though his lens.

The name of Ping’s studio, “Be Water Imaging,” is inspired by Bruce Lee. He wants to be formless yet powerful as a cave diver and photographer, just like water, and eventually be able to push the boundaries of underwater photography.
