DERICK LOZANO-WALKER: MISSION-DRIVEN FILMMAKING AND PULLING EMOTION FROM IMAGES

Derick Lozano-Walker is an award-winning underwater cinematographer. His presentation will focus on mission-driven filmmaking and pulling emotion from images. Within this context, he will outline his process from Pre to Post, as well as demonstrating color grading and pulling high-res images from video.

Derick Lozano-Walker is a filmmaker and award-winning cinematographer, renowned for his expertise in underwater cinematography. Graduating from Florida Atlantic University, he has honed his craft over seven years, demonstrating a keen eye for storytelling behind a lens.

Derick is not only a gifted cinematographer but also a UAV pilot, video editor and colorist. His proficiency in these areas allows him to bring depth and richness to every project he undertakes.

Driven by a passion for the natural world and a commitment to raising awareness through his work, Derick continues to push boundaries in the field of filmmaking. Whether capturing the beauty of marine life or delving into pressing social issues, his films resonate deeply with audiences, sparking conversations and inspiring change.

The main focus of Derick’s presentation for SFUPS will be around mission-driven filmmaking and pulling emotion from images. He will walk the audience through the production process from Pre to Post while adhering to the overall purpose.

He will be showcasing some clips from shoots and will finish with a live demonstration of color grading video in DaVinci Resolve. This free program can open up the world of color grading for video and images to many that might think it is out of reach. He will also be talking about photography, demonstrating pulling hi-res images from video – his preferred process as he mainly shoots video.
