MARCH 14TH 2023 - VIRTUAL MEETING VIA ZOOM

WITH AMOS NACHOUM - AWE AND ENCHANTMENT: THOUGHTFULLY AND RESPECTFULLY IN THE COMPANY OF THE GIANTS OF THE SEA

Meeting starts at 6.45pm. Login and enter meeting ID 94559407242 and passcode 359571 if prompted.

Amos Nachoum is renowned as a master of photography of big animals – both threatened and endangered worldwide – with the purpose of capturing their behavior. Learn about his awe-inspiring up-close encounters with these ocean giants as he free dives with blue whales off the Eastern Pacific, scuba dives in the Okavango Delta with crocodiles and goes face-to-face with the great white shark. He is one of only five people to ever swim with and photograph a polar bear underwater and the only person to photograph one with her two cubs. More people (only 12) have walked on the moon!

Since 1980, Amos has explored every significant body of water from the North Pole to Antarctica. Amos’s photographic vision is to raise awareness of ocean giants in their habitats. His images reflect respect and compassion for animals and the wilderness. Through his photography, he strives to dispel the myths of “dangerous” wildlife and show harmonious interactions between man and animal. Amos is also an explorer, leading wildlife photography expeditions with his company Biganimals.com. Amos’s photos and essays have appeared in publications including National Geographic, Time, Life, The New York Times, Condé Nast Traveler, Le Figaro, Terra Sauvage, Airone, Der Spiegel, Unterwasser, Fifty Fathoms, and on 4 covers of the Explorers Club Journal. In February 2002, Amos’s photography won the Nikon contest. He is a two-time winner in the animal behavioral category of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award. In 2012 he placed first in the American Photography Artist competition. In 2012 and in 2022 he shared his vision “There are no demons in the sea” in his prestigious and popular Ted Talks.

Amos won First Place in 2018 and 2022 in the SIENA awards in the animal behavior category. In 2019 he was nominated to be the SeaKeepers Man of the Year. Amos is the subject of a biographical movie, “Picture of his Life,” about his career and his ultimate adventure – diving with wild polar bears. Featuring alongside James Cameron, David Attenborough, Walter Cronkite, Jacques Cousteau, and Mikael Gorbachev, the movie is out now, after ten years in the making, to great reviews in Europe and in the USA. To date, only five people have been diving with polar bears, and only Amos has done so with a family of three. In 2021 Amos was nominated as the “Nature Photographer of the Year”. His coffee table picture book “BIG” was published in June 2022. Amos lives in Pacific Grove CA, USA.
