BRENDA HILL

I first fell in love with scuba when my husband David and I went on a trip to Cancun in 2003. He had taken a scuba course in college and had been diving only a few times. We both took a “resort course” at our hotel. As soon as I entered the ocean and saw the beauty of the reef, my mind began asking “When are we going next?” It has not stopped since. I took a class locally in Memphis, Tennessee, and got certified in the Bahamas a few months later. With full time jobs and four kids, for many years our diving was limited to a week or two each year. We came to West Palm Beach on one of our vacations, then returned every summer for the next four years after falling in love with Blue Heron Bridge. We moved to Florida in 2015 and began diving much more frequently. Blue Heron Bridge is my favorite dive site, but we also frequent multiple shore entry points from Pompano Beach to North Ft. Lauderdale whenever the ocean conditions allow. So far, we have been diving in Maui, the Big Island (Hawaii), Jamaica, Grand Bahama, Cozumel, Bonaire, Roatan, and the Sea of Cortez. Like most divers, we have a long wish list of trips to take.

I started out in underwater photography with an Olympus TG-4, then purchased the TG-6 when it came out. I first added a video light, then strobes. In April 2023 (a few months ago), I bought an Olympus PEN EPL-10 with a Nauticam CMC-1 diopter. I currently use two Inon S-2000 strobes and recently purchased an Ikelite W-30 Wide Angle conversion lens.

I feel blessed to have so many friends who share the love of diving and underwater photography in the south Florida diving community. I love sharing pictures of the beautiful ocean critters with other divers and non-divers. We take jars to collect hooks and trash on every dive, and hope that increasing awareness will encourage others to make small (and big) changes to help care for our planet.
