HEYWARD BOYETTE

I started diving in 2014 when my wife and I planned a family trip to St Martin. We, along with our daughters, were certified by a local dive shop so that we could go diving in the Caribbean. Little did we know what a long-lasting presence diving would become in our lives. We have been diving regularly ever since. One of my daughters even went on to become a dive master instructor.

On that first flight to St Martin, I remember seeing a photograph of a Flamingo Tongue Snail on the pages of an In-Flight magazine and thinking, “I want to take pictures like that!”. I’ve had a camera in my hands almost from the start. My wife gifted me a small point & shoot camera which I quickly outgrew. That was when I stepped onto the slippery slope of underwater photography that led me to my current setup of a Nikon D850 in a Nauticam housing with strobes and focus lights.

We have been regular visitors to the West Palm area since 2014, as well as many other dive destinations throughout the Caribbean and Mexico.  We eventually purchased a second home in Jensen Beach so that we could split our time between Florida and our primary residence in South Carolina. I enjoy drift dives along the Florida coast, searching for small creatures at the Blue Heron Bridge, and I am especially fond of Blackwater diving. I am fortunate in that my wife and daughters often dive with me and are good sports about helping me find subjects to photograph. In addition to Underwater Photography, I also enjoy Deep Space Astrophotography (another niche requiring lots of specialized gear), as well as wildlife & landscape photography.

I enjoy sharing images of what we see beneath the surface and I am excited to learn from other members oF the SFUPS community
