JJ’s lifelong passion for traveling has taken him to over 100 countries. For 25 years, that has included the underwater world. At the age of 16 he signed up for an open water course in Hawaii with his father and proceeded to spend the next 30 days at the dive shop from sunrise to after sunset for night dives. Before “zero to hero” was a term, JJ raced through certifications.
One of JJ’s original certifications was “Underwater Photographer”, where he learned to use film and the advanced photo editing technique of telling Costco to add red when printing! He even had a camera that added the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo to every photo. He progressed to point and shoot cameras, GoPros, and eventually to using an iPhone. The best part of using an iPhone was the universal housing that allowed for annual dive camera upgrades each year when a new phone came out and being able to swap between wide angle and macro while on a dive. Like many photographers, the limitations of those cameras pushed him to get a house for his DSLR. He now shoots with the Canon R5 and an Easydive housing.
In 2021, JJ and his family moved to south Florida to be able to dive more often. He can usually be found in Jupiter seeking out the seasonal sharks that visit our local waters. His passion is spending time with sharks and trying to find unique ways to capture their beauty. Why watch Shark Week when you can live it every week!
