Zach Whalen, an accomplished cinematographer and marine enthusiast, possesses a profound commitment to capturing the captivating intricacies of the underwater realm. Armed with expertise as both an ecologist and imaging professional, Zach possesses an intimate understanding of marine ecosystems. His remarkable photography serves as a conduit for revealing the concealed existence of marine life.
Zach is originally from Boston where an enduring passion for ocean exploration took root during his formative years. Zach embarked on his aquatic journey by exploring the waters of San Diego through snorkeling – even undertaking daring encounters with sharks during his teenage years. Attending undergrad in Maine, he spent his time exploring the murky green waters of the north Atlantic and learning how to capture images that told the story of the diverse life that calls the Gulf of Maine home. Zach’s first visits to Florida were to learn cave diving and explore the springs of North Florida. Presently, Zach is based in Central Florida, where he is a dive instructor – imparting knowledge in open water and advanced scuba diving techniques. His unwavering pursuit of excellence drives him to constantly elevate his diving proficiency, employing advanced equipment like closed circuit rebreathers and venturing into the enigmatic world of cave diving for underwater exploration.
Zach’s work has been featured on the YouTube channels Brave Wilderness, Blue World TV, and Mark Vins (the Aquanaut). He was also selected for the San Diego Underwater Film Festival in 2022 and 2023, and his work has been displayed at Sea World Abu Dhabi.
