JULY 2026 SFUPS BLACKWATER DIVE

Join SFUPS and blackwater expert Linda Ianniello to experience the fascinating world of blackwater diving. Learn how to identify and photograph the mesmerizing creatures found in the water column just off our shores as they migrate from the depths at night. If you’ve been wanting to try a blackwater dive, but are a little apprehensive, this is the perfect opportunity to do so with a group of divers you know.

DETAILS:

Price: $110 for charter (Your SFUPS discount is already applied), plus 6.5% tax and a required 20 gratuity.  Tanks are available for rental, with pricing based on tank size and gas type:

  • Aluminum 80 Air – $15
  • Aluminum 80 Nx – $20
  • Steel 100 Air – $20
  • Steel 100 Nx – $25

Max number of participants: 9

All Blackwater divers must be at least 15 years old and hold, at a minimum, a PADI Advanced Open Water certification, PADI Night Diver certification, or an equivalent certification from another recognized training agency. This should not be your first night dive.

All participants are required to have a primary dive light, a backup light, and a tank marker light (a cyalume light is acceptable). Other required diving equipment includes a BCD, regulator with an alternate second stage, dive computer, pressure gauge, surface marker buoy or lift bag, and mask, fins, and snorkel.

DAN insurance is highly recommended.

PRICE BREAKDOWN FOR EACH TANK OPTION:

  • No tank rental: Charter $110 + tax $7.15 + tip $20 = $137.15
  • Aluminum 80 Air: Charter $110 + tank $15 + tax $8.13 + tip $20 = $153.13
  • Aluminum 80 NX: Charter $110 + tank $20 + tax $8.45 + tip $20 = $158.45
  • Steel 100 Air: Charter $110 + tank $20 + tax $8.78 + tip $20 = $158.45
  • Steel 100 NX: Charter $110 + tank $25 + tax $8.75 + tip $20 = $163.78
