Diver and Goliath: I find divers to be more challenging to photograph well than the fish! This photo needed work with a crop, extensive backscatter removal and getting rid of another photographers camera that intruded into the frame. I only thought it worth the work because of the eye contact between my wife Ann and the Goliath Grouper.

  • Blue and white, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
  • Manta Magic: Always be willing to try something new, even if it seems nuts. Like using only ambient light on a night dive! I had done the Kona night manta dive before and struggled with strobe back-scatter spoiling shots, so I turned them off. The images were a bit noisy, but I found that the soft-focus effect of noise reduction added a dreamy quality that enhanced rather than detracted from the shot.
