SUSAN MEARS, LINDA IANNIELLO

have been chosen by the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island for an Exhibit of our blackwater mollusk images. It is called: Black Water Moments: Nocturnal Photographs of Open-Ocean Mollusks, and will be on display at the Museum December 10, 2021 through May 30, 2022.

was a guest speaker at the Malaysia International Dive Expo. Her presentation was on the Art of Blackwater Photography.

RICH COLLINS

is the co-author of a scientific paper entitled “Hydromedusae observed during night dives in the Gulf Stream” released on October 21. The paper is based on a huge variety of Hydromedusae Rich photographed and collected during blackwater dives over almost two years. “Photos of living medusae – whole animals and details – present clear advantages over drawings and reconstructions made from preserved material collected with plankton nets……..The aim of the present work was therefore to document, identify, DNA barcode, and discuss the taxonomy of hydromedusae observed and photographed in situ off the coast of Florida.” It is a tremendous piece of work identifying 46 species, 6 additional species nameable only to the genus level, and describing 6 new species.
